Hello. I'm Beth Carroll. Welcome to New Hampshire Outlook.
He's an economist by day and artist by night.
You've seen Russ Thibeault on this program.
But the President of Applied Economic Research in Laconia is also a self-taught artist.
Driven by curiosity Thibeault took up watercolor painting at age 40.
As Outlook's Ally McNair tells us, his one-man art show focuses on more than a year of work at a tiny roadside pond in downtown Laconia.

He's a familiar face to many of you in our audience -- as host of "Crossroads Classics."
His column in the Union Leader is infinetely readable -- as he weaves stories about your neighbor and mine.
John Clayton is also an author.
He's here to talk about his latest book:
"You know you're in New Hampshire when. 101 quintessential places, people, events, customs, lingo, and eats of the granite state.
John, Welcome.
Q That's a lot of territory.how did you narrow it to only 101 items.
Q You've been described as the state's "Leading Culture Maven".
Knowing MORE about NH than most --add to the challenge. or easier.
Q You solicited input from your readers: So, what did you hear back.
Where did most of your entries come from?
Q This is one in a series of books --on the 50 states. A quick read: 101 pages.
Who were you thinking of your target audience??
Newcomers?/Natives??? Outsiders?
Q In trying to uncover little know facts about NH -- did you, a longtime native and writer of NH lore and history --discover things even you didn't know??
Q The book has been out since this summer.ANY errors of Omission POINTED\
out to you YET???

.Who made the CUT.who didn't.
HISTORY: The raid on Ft William and Mary.

why have we ABRIDGED the saying.
Q GENERAL KNOWLEDGE CATEGORY:
** There are 5 Seasons instead of 4 in NH.
** Maybe 6 -- if you count BLACK FLY season
POLITICS: "First in the Nation" Voting: Dixville Notch.
and, the Presidential Primary -- so much a part of the state's identification.
** Is there a LESSER KNOWN political tidbit in the book??
Q You talk about HOG heaven in NH. Bike week in Laconia.made it in
Q TRADITIONS: Old Home Days
Q FIDDLEHEADS -- I knew they had nothing to do with music.
&
How to cook them.
Q LEAF Peeping: definelty quintessential NH.
Q MacDowell Colony: America's Oldest artists colony.
Q What made it in the FOOD category???
Q MUSEUMS: couldn't pick just one. Currier, Strawberry Banke, Canterbury Shaker village
